Proverbs 16:32

"He who is slow to anger is better than the mighty, And he who rules his spirit than he who takes a city."

The Word of the Lord God Almighty

The one who rules his spirit means the one who has self control. The one who is slow to anger has self control. So the key here is self control, so rather than letting sinful impulses take control of our words or actions or thoughts, we are to remain always prepared, though not through our own control, but knowing God, we control what He has handed to us, thus it  doesn't mean we have to do everything by ourselves all of a sudden, but through God and His promise that He is with us always, all our burdens we can hand to Him. Therefore, we submit our worries to God and use God's power to control the sinful self that lusts and is prideful, and we examine ourselves and repent, day by day, growing closer to God as we deny our sinful self, putting away the old habits and putting on the new.
