Repent, for the Kingdom of Heaven is at hand (in Matthew first said by John, (3:2), then Jesus, (4:17)
This is a personal testimony and experience of mine last Saturday.
So this actually happened two days ago on Saturday, which was partly why I posted the how to evangelize post on Friday, because on Saturday we were going to evangelize. It was me with my Dad and his friends, and I was the only teen there, but that’s okay, it’s an adult group after all and I’m there to gain experience. Plus, I’ve done this before so even though Satan’s trying to lie to me by saying, what right do you have to spread the Kingdom of God to people who are “greater” than you and others, I just know if the Kingdom of God is not spread, then who would hear of Jesus’s powerful miracle to save humanity (Matthew 24:14, 28:19, Mark 16:15)? So we go, and despite a fear in me that seems to grow, once I arrive there, there was no fear. Because I can not fear Satan and my old doubts when God is the only One I should fear. With newfound strength poured in me by the Holy Spirit, I go, me and this other guy, who’s my partner and dad’s good friend, being led by the Holy Spirit to talk to people about Jesus and His Love for them. We stopped by this fruit truck, and we actually met this guy from last time, Juan, I believe, and his daughter. It was truly beautiful, because his daughter, who has never heard of Jesus, was willing and ready to accept Him, which, to me, takes so much courage. So we prayed over her, and I remember the last thing I told her was, no matter how much you want to give up, don’t, because Jesus never gave up on you. And I told her Jesus loves you, and I truly meant it. I pray now that she still remembers and took it all to heart, and after giving her dad the paper we had that explained stuff about Christianity and why we believe, we would leave. She was only seven years old.
The next significant people we met were two. There’s this guy on a motorcycle and his friend, and the brown haired guy actually approached us first instead of the other way around. He was struggling with a lot, stuff on family and life, and so we prayed over them, that Jesus would protect them and heal the sinful bonds of man. It was really beautiful, because they were young too, definitely around eighteen or so. However by this point we only had one piece of the English copy left explaining why Jesus is so important, and I was willing to give it to them to read but they said save it for someone else instead. They also pointed toward this lady across the parking lot and said she looks like she needs help, and then they left.
Now there was this spirit possessed woman that went about screaming and blaspheming the Name of God, and she’s actually been around since we were setting up shop. She has an evil spirit inside of her, and I pray for her silently in my heart. My partner who was with me and more experienced tried to take control of the situation, and I was just watching for I was fearful, but the woman, when I haven’t even said a thing, keeps turning her attention back to me. I hardly said a thing to her, and she’s looking at me and talking to me as though my partner isn’t even talking to her. To me, it’s a confirmation that she sees God in me, perhaps the Holy Spirit, but maybe I’m reading too much into this tense situation.
We would depart, for again I was too fearful to lay hands on her and cast out her demons in the Name of Jesus, but it was certainly a reality check. Not everyone would receive the Kingdom of God in great joy, in fact, the early Christians were persecuted for spreading the Kingdom of God. And they would die horrible deaths, but knowing they have done the Will of God.
Eventually, we walk back to base, and we would notice this homeless man that was just outside the supermarket. He just came, because he wasn’t there before we set up, so my partner approached, and then me, being led by the Holy Spirit. We talked and prayed over him, that in Jesus’s Name his wounds would be healed, and that Jesus would be with him and love him as His child. That though he don’t have a home on earth, he may have a Heavenly home. Apparently, we found out he’s already a believer in Jesus, and seeing him in such a situation genuinely broke my heart. We gave him alms, and most importantly the paper that I saved. I knew this was the right person to give it to, for He needs a hope and a light in the darkness he’s in, and Jesus says He is the Light (John 8:12) So, I would give the last English copy explaining the love that Jesus has for us, that was saved till the very end, and, well, it was done.
In total, I was there for around two hours and thirty, and truly the experience has opened my eyes to how many people need Jesus, and how big an impact you can truly be by just putting yourself out there proclaiming the Kingdom of Heaven boldly (with love, not arrogantly). The seven year old girl who’s never heard, but now has, the struggling teens, the crazy woman, and the homeless man. All so different, yet all having sinned and fallen short from the Kingdom of God. That is why we ultimately need Jesus, for only He is the perfect sacrifice, and only through Him is Life.
May we all continue steadfastly and never give up hope, because God is not done working in you yet. For Jesus said, “I will never leave you nor forsake you” (Hebrews 13:5).
So as we grow in our faith, let our faith be strong and unwavering, knowing the promises God made to us. Let us be fishers of men (Matthew 4:19, which amazingly I read this morning), doing his will, and producing the good fruits in which He will harvest.
Amen.
And Glory be to You, King of Kings!
