Jesus never said following Him would be easy, but He did say He is the Truth (John 14:6).
To me, following Jesus is a great joy in my life, for I don’t know who I’d be without Him, however, it is very challenging. Truly if I want to have a “easy” life here on earth, being a Christian, a true one at that, would not be at the top of that list. After all, sometimes even opening up the Bible and reading it is hard, because of my old flesh’s weakness and pull towards sin. Distractions also play a huge role in the matter, especially in this day and age, as they are more assessable than ever before. And it gets so, so very easy to get distracted from our purpose. We try to numb and entertain ourselves with all sorts of things, things like the phone, electronics, just to name a few. Now that’s ironic to say because I’m using the phone to type this all right now, but I also believe Satan and the demons are using this device to tempt, distract, confuse, and destroy believers and nonbelievers alike with some terrible things. I heard from some people that Satan is trying to use the phone and such devices to become omnipresent like God, which I do agree with to a extent since a lot of the time when I’m on my phone, it’s just distracting me and laziness creeps in. And then I try and repent and then fall back and the cycle keeps repeating itself. Now by Jesus’s grace I am forgiven, but that doesn’t make laziness an excuse.
Again, following Christ is not meant to be easy, which is why many more people will go through the wide gate to eternal separation from the All Good, All Loving God, and very few would even find the thin, narrow path to the gate that leads to Life (Matthew 7:13-14). All in all, just wanted to let my brothers and sisters know that the cross is meant to be heavy, and it is not easy to follow Jesus with all these worldly temptations. That is why, more than ever, we must keep our eyes on Jesus Christ and follow His example, read and study His teachings, and be led by the Holy Spirit, for He is the Truth. Remember that out of love, Christ died for us so that we may have life in Him, and He rose creating earth’s most wondrous miracle. So we, too, shall follow His example and His love, loving one another like Christ, and helping one another in times of hardship, out from temptations and distractions alike.
Carrying the cross is hard, but it’ll be worth it. In fact, it’ll be worth an eternity.
Thank you for reading brothers and sisters, and may love, joy, and peace be in you in these warring times, as we continue to wait upon the Lord, our hope and our future.
