John 1:1-5, New Catholic Bible

In the Beginning was the Word,

and the Word was with God,

and the Word was God.

He was with God from the very beginning.

Through him, all things came into existence,

and without him, there was nothing.

That which came to be,

found life in him, and that life

is the light of the human race.

The light shines in the darkness,

and the darkness has not overcome it.

The word of the Lord.
