For one, definitely prayer, for when we pray, we “ ‘Ask, and it will be given to you;” (Matt 7:7), meaning if we ask for what is good, like in this case asking to surrender to God to be more closely aligned with God and His will, surely God will give us the power to resist the devil’s lies and instead, overcome evil with good by the power of the Spirit. Now if one is worried for one’s salvation, that already is a start in itself, because the fact you might be concerned with your salvation shows a humble heart, that you’re unsure by yourself, you deserve to be saved. Of course the key to salvation is by following the one Who said “I am the Truth, and the Way, and the Life” (John 14:6), daily, because even a believer can be a believer in Christ and fall away. But by doing this daily, by following Christ daily even when we don’t “feel” like it or even when temptations come, through the rejection of fleshly passions, by saying no to worldly consumption, we say yes to Christ. We say yes to His Word and we say yes to worshipping Him and Loving Him and being with Him, because one cannot be in two stances. We cannot be a friend of God and also a friend to the devil, or a friend to sin but also a friend to carrying our crosses every day, executing our flesh for the greater Glory that is to come. So yes, we should ask the Holy Spirit to work out our salvation, for Grace is a gift, and no amount of work we do can cover up our sins, only Christ can, for only Christ was perfect, sinless, and died for our sins, but also conquer over it by rising from the dead. And surely by asking God and spending time with God each day, He will not deny us before His judgement seat. So we listen to God, and by surrendering to Him, we are anew, a new flesh, that which is in line with God’s will. And through prayer and repentance, we become ever so closer to God than before, dwelling in God’s house forever. Amen.
