No, I don’t mean it in a bad way, but it is as though whenever I struggle with a sin, I do not overcome that sin fully if you know what I mean. And my old flesh at this moment is struggling to even name the sins directly, for it wants to be kept in the dark and do not want to be exposed. But I’m exposing them anyway, for my conscience and the consciences of others, and so perhaps, we can truly overcome the sins by the power of God once we choose to submit and commit to Him alone. I’m struggling with laziness, that’s a big one, but also lust and this… boredom, which may be the stem to both. It’s summer break, and I’m not sure if I’m speaking for anyone here but that also means we are more “vulnerable” to the attacks of Satan and his demons especially through boredom. When I’m bored, like after I “finished” worshipping God (though truly no one can ever be finished with worshipping God), my mind reaches for anything to fill the void, through the windows of the eye or the flesh, and the pride of life. Pride, because I feel as though I deserve something, pride, as though I can do things on my own, and it’s been revealed that it is pride that is the fuel to the boredom, because I’m so prideful in myself that I allow myself to be in a dangerous situation spiritually to where I am numb to God and even having thoughts that I don’t need God (or that He doesn’t exist) which are very dangerous thoughts to have. This boredom for me leads to laziness and lust, all because of this pride which fueled three lies into my mind. That either 1) even though it is sin, I believe the sin is “too small” to count (not true), 2) even though it is sin, I believe the sin won’t do any harm (not true), and 3) even though it is sin I believe it is not sin and is actually good for me (most definitely not true). As of currently I’m on the process of “healing”, you could call it, from the lies of the devil and boredom and laziness and lust and pride, though I’m still not sure of the exact steps that needed to be taken to truly overcome these sins, but to give ourselves over to God rather than the pleasures of this world. Another thing I want to mention is this, which is true for many though many may disagree; that this digital world we live in may be more bad than good. Now this is ironic since I’m using his website right now to share and connect, but along with many others we believe electronics can also be dangerous to our faith and lead many to be distracted from God, as it did for me. Again, this does not mean all electronics are bad, but we must realize that people on these platforms (and I’m not saying this as in ALL people, but the majority) are trying to build their own kingdom, not Gods’. Thus, we must be careful and really be in prayer and communion with God and one another that this digital space would not catch us unguarded, lest we sprint mindlessly to it. So let us all be steadfast, minded of our surroundings and who or what we choose to surround ourselves with, though still being in the process of overcoming these sins myself, cannot be the one to give the advice, but hopefully God through a sinner like me. And this Bible verse has really helped me discern what is from God and what is not from God, and it is this: “But he who doubts is condemned if he eats, because he does not eat from faith; for whatever is not from faith is sin.” (Romans 14:23) Therefore, whatever we do, think, or say must be from God and for God and to God and in God, that we may not be led astray. Now this response is probably all over the place, but I hope by God I’ve answered the question in a straightforward enough answer, though with many layers. But honestly from what God has revealed to not just me, but us through His Word, it is clear that these sins we’re struggling with have already been overcome by Jesus Christ already, so that we may have life. That by His death our sins are put to death, so by His resurrection we, too, may rise out of our sins. So really, perhaps it is not me who overcomes my sins, but God through me. We were saved. We are being saved. We will be saved! So I am not disheartened, ashamed, yes, by my sins, but not ashamed nor disheartened to repent. From out of this evil God may help us grow more rooted in Him, so to truly repent and overcome these sins, we keep our eyes on God, our mind focused on God in whatever we do, for only He is good. Yes, it will be a hard and long journey, but it’ll sure be worth it. More than worth it. God help us all!
