Blessed Holy Monday to you my brothers and sisters in Christ! It is Holy Week, a time of great activity in the Kingdom of God, and a time to listen to what Christ teaches us, and a time to observe what he is doing on Holy Week. And on this day, Holy Monday, one of the most important things that Christ our Lord did was overturing the tables in the Temple, driving out all who did business within the Temple, and so therefore purifying the Holy Temple by his actions on Holy Monday, which is today. The things that Christ did when doing this teaches some very important things, and it definitely shows us the manner of how we should act when Christ is in charge, which he is, even at this very moment.

Before the teachings about Christ overturning the tables in the Temple begin, it is good to have a visual guide about Christ overturning the tables and cleansing the Temple. So, here is the clip from The Chosen, about Christ himself cleansing the
Temple, and driving out all who profaned the Temple:

As you can see brothers and sisters in Christ, Christ was not having any of it, and was really angry that people would profane the Temple the way that they did, and he, with the righteous anger that he had, used it to drive out all the ones who were unwittingly but purposefully against God. Now it is time for the things that we can learn from Christ when he cleans the Temple.

Firstly, Christ here shows us that never should the Holy Church, which is dedicated wholly to the Lord, to never be in earthly pursuits. The people in the Holy Temple, instead of worshiping the One True God who has loved them all their lives, in the sacred ground in which they were supposed to worship and love the One who loved them, they were in hot pursuit of worldly things, and things that were bound to pass away. So in essence, they abandoned God and chased after worldly things, feeding into their sinful greed to the point that they were willing to do this on Holy Grounds. Instead of any form of worship, they bought and sold, argued over prices, made bargains over animals that were supposed to be used in worship, and in the process, they forgot the God who delivered them out of sin, delivered them out of bondage in Egypt, and built for them the Holy Temple. Jesus Christ sternly warns all who follow him and all who would belong to his Holy Church that never should the Holy Church, or anything considered Holy, should be used for earthly and worldly pursuits. Such behavior would be dangerous, for it risks us forgetting God's love. So, whenever we Christians are at Church, our attention should be entirely directed to the Lord who delivered us out of sin, and not on the earthly things of this world. For when we do this, we know God's Love, and Christ would truly be in our midst. And let us not buy and sell on Holy ground, but on Holy ground, we should be worshipping the One who delivered us out of separation from God, and into intimate Union with God.

And so this brings up an interesting observation and teaching about the cleansing of the Temple: we Christians ourselves are Temples of the Holy Spirit, as Saint Paul said in his first letter to the Corinthians. So, we must allow Christ into ourselves, by the Holy Sacraments of the Holy Church, and cleanse all of us of earthly matters and earthly pursuits. We should ask Christ therefore to cleanse us of all sin, of all separation, of all uncleanliness, and polish us to be clean by his Grace, becoming partakers of the divine nature, and so communicate God's love to others around us, which is truly the most wonderful reality in life. By allowing the Holy Church and Christ to cleanse us, we can really have God's Peace, something so wonderful that it is right for everyone to have the Peace which comes from God. That's why Christ came to us, so that we might have this peace, and he shows us that we can have this when we, with righteous anger and righteous purpose, cleanse ourselves of sin and worldliness by the power and Grace of God. And when we do this, we find ourselves relying on God more, which is very good, for this creates intimacy with God, which is truly wonderful.

There's many things that have been communicated by Christ our Lord by his cleansing of the Holy Temple, on this day Holy Monday. But these two teachings are among those which are very important and are of especially good teaching and good application to our lives as Christians. Let us not be in earthly pursuits on Holy Ground, let us not think worldly whilst in worship, and let us ask the God who redeemed us, the Father, Son, and Holy Spirit, the Holy Trinity in unity, to cleanse ourselves of sin, of separation of God, of all worldly things, and ask him to clean us so that we might always have communion and union with God, which is truly the most wonderful reality that can be received by God's Grace in this life.

Have a Blessed Holy Monday this Holy Week my brothers and sisters in Christ! Never forget God's Love, and keep these things in your hearts my friends in Christ. Glory be to the Father, and to the Son, and to the Holy Spirit, now and forever unto the end of the age. Amen.
