Us Christians celebrate Ash Wednesday, to tell ourselves and others that we are sinners, and that we repent from our sinful nature, and decide to spend more time with Jesus Christ for the period known as Lent, the period of time when all Christians spend more time with Jesus Christ, through more prayer and some fasting as well, all then leading up to his crucifixion, death, and amazing resurrection, showing to believers that he has won over Satan, death, sin, and evil once and for all. And Lent begins with Ash Wednesday. So, why do we participate in Ash Wednesday?
Part of the reason is that it is the beginning of Lent. Since us Christians are about to undergo a period of time in which we will spend much more time with Jesus Christ, we need to start it off right as well. What better way to start off a period of time with Jesus Christ than to repent your sins in ashes, showing to God and yourself that you are indeed a sinner in need of repentance, that can only be accomplished through God the Father's son, Jesus Christ! The other part of the reason is repentance, as stated earlier. Jesus Christ tells us that we need to repent our sinful nature and our sins, or die the worst death possible, eternal separation from God in Hell, as it is written in Luke 13:1-9 (shown above). But when we do repent our sinful self, we do accept Jesus' sacrifice he made to us out of his everlasting Love, and thus salvation is achieved through Jesus Christ, and we are able to inherit eternal life! How cool is that!
So definitely go to Church and repent your sins and sinful nature this Ash Wednesday. You will be helping yourself, and others you decide to bring along with too. The Grace of God the Father and the Lord Jesus Christ be with you all this Lent season. Amen.
